On the Easel: WIP Finished

Rojo Grande, 30" x 30", Oil on Cradled Panel
I was without my digital camera for a couple of days, so there is a posting gap in where I left the painting the other day to the finished artwork. Forgive me, but I was eager to keep working on the painting and just couldn't wait until I got my camera back.

As you can see, the painting is different than the smaller piece that inspired it. The intuitive painting process that I engage in allows me to follow the course of the painting and see where it takes me -- and I was not interested in merely copying what I painted before. I'm pleased with the results.

Thank you to Kate & Stephen who left comments on the inital stages of this piece -- I really appreciate your stopping by to watch the painting unfold and to add  your encouraging comments.

On the Easel: Work-in-Progress (WIP) continued

A lot of my landscapes are more intuitive than literal, so I often like to let the painting take me where it wants to go rather than over-control the journey. This is where I ended up this morning. It's okay, but not what I'm looking for. So this painting is going get some micro-management in the form of scraping, a lower horizon line, and less blue sky showing.

This afternoon, I scraped. Can't be afraid to scrape!

To be continued...

Tierra Roja I, 9" x 12"

I was looking at my 9"x12" painting, Tierra Roja, and decided it would work beautifully on a grander scale. So, today I began a 30" x 30" Ampersand Museum Cradled Panel. I'll post the work-in-progress (WIP) as I go along over the next few days.

Toned panel.

Trowelling on paint.

More paint (this part is fun).

Building up layers with knife & brush.

Just the beginning of many layers and time to take a break.
